Here is just one of many stories we hear about our memory cafe. This one is from a daughter whose father has dementia.

Beth’s Story About Arthur’s Memory Cafe

My parents went to the Memory Cafe this week. My dad was reluctant, but said he’d try it because my mom really wanted to go. After, they got in the car and he said he really enjoyed himself and she told him that she did, too. Yesterday, I took him to lunch with a friend from high school. Out of the blue, he told my friend that he has alzheimers and then told her about the memory cafe and how much he liked it. I felt the type of pride I usually have for my kids, but it was for my dad! I have never heard him talk about it!!! I can’t thank you enough for reaching out to me on that article!!!

Meetings with Memory Cafe members are a new highlight in the couple’s altered life back in Minnesota.

“It’s not what we were imagining, but it’s where we are,” George Seiler said of himself and his 70-year-old wife. “We need activity like this, and it’s surprisingly hard to find. … Annie opens up around people. It’s good for her. It’s good for both of us.”  CLICK HERE for the full article and how you can find out about three different Memory Cafes in the Roseville and Maplewood areas.

Thank You Fabulous Native American Flute Players

At our last meeting on March 27th, our two Arthur’s Memory Cafe groups joined together to enjoy the talents of two gracious women who came to share their love for the Native American flutes.  The flutes were gorgeous and surprising light to hold.  The music was beautiful and calming.  Deborah Magnuson and Cynthia Unowsky are part of a group called 10,000 Lakes Flute Circle which performs for a variety of groups around town as their way to give back.

Their performance was enchanting and kept us all engaged as their flutes bantered back and forth.  They gave us some insights into the history of flutes, the various woods that are used to craft the instruments, how the tones can be changed and mastered and how the instruments have been used to communicate as well as used for pleasure and relaxation.

It was a very fun time.

Maybe you will want to join us at our next meeting on April 1oth from  1-3 pm at J. Arthur’s Coffee shop in Roseville, Mn.
