Arthur’s Memory Café Expands

Now not only do we have facilitated gatherings twice a month, but we have secured space due to the kind donation of Arthur’s Residential Care and J Arthur’s Coffee Shop to offer meeting space on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays of the month too! Both are free of charge.

See below for details on both formats.

Arthur’s Memory Café –Facilitated Activities

What

A place where individuals with memory loss and their caregivers can get together in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.

When

Second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:00-3:00 P.M.

Arthur’s Memory Café – Informal gatherings

What
Arthur’s Memory Café found that many members were interested in getting together more frequently and informally, and so Arthur’s Residential now provides additional time for a safe space and free coffee and chat time where individuals with memory loss and their caregivers can get together and support each other.  These meetings are not facilitated.

When
First, third and fifth Wednesday of each month from 1:00-2:30 P.M.

Both Gatherings Are Held At:

J. Arthur’s Coffee Shop

Arthur’s Memory Cafe – Creating An Impact

Here is just one of many stories we hear about our memory cafe. This one is from a daughter whose father has dementia.

Beth’s Story About Arthur’s Memory Cafe

My parents went to the Memory Cafe this week. My dad was reluctant, but said he’d try it because my mom really wanted to go. After, they got in the car and he said he really enjoyed himself and she told him that she did, too. Yesterday, I took him to lunch with a friend from high school. Out of the blue, he told my friend that he has alzheimers and then told her about the memory cafe and how much he liked it. I felt the type of pride I usually have for my kids, but it was for my dad! I have never heard him talk about it!!! I can’t thank you enough for reaching out to me on that article!!!

This Story Just Makes Me Smile!

St Paul Pioneer Press Reporter Sarah Horner and Photo Journalist Jean Pieri capture the essence of the Memory Cafe Concept and why they are so powerful.   Below is just a snippet of the article.  Please click on the above graphic for the full article and don’t forget to share it with your friends and family.  You might be surprised who all is dealing with this disease in silence.

Meetings with Memory Cafe members are a new highlight in the couple’s altered life back in Minnesota.

“It’s not what we were imagining, but it’s where we are,” George Seiler said of himself and his 70-year-old wife. “We need activity like this, and it’s surprisingly hard to find. … Annie opens up around people. It’s good for her. It’s good for both of us.”  CLICK HERE for the full article and how you can find out about three different Memory Cafes in the Roseville and Maplewood areas.

For more information on the Memory Cafes around the world and in your neighborhood, check out Alzheimer’s Speaks page with mentors and more so you can get your own Memory Cafe up and running.
